Guitar Garage Heads Into Spring

The pedal cabinet in our hive has had a shuffle heading into spring. The Garage Sale is on too, with great prices on Line 6, Warm Audio Phaser, and the EHX White Finger. Here's eight recent arrivals worth knowing about.
One of the first three Boss pedals ever made. Early Black Label unit with the second-generation 8-pin dual op-amp circuit and the legendary 4558 chip — asymmetrical clipping gives it a thick, mid-focused edge that's punchier than the smoother Tube Screamer-style drives. Runs on the old Boss ACA 12V spec or a standard 9V battery. Honest road wear, no box, fully functional.
First-year "narrow box" model, made in Japan by Maxon. Panasonic BBD chips give it that warm, dark, three-dimensional echo real analog delays are known for. Three original rubber knob washers, an intact battery gate, upgraded battery snaps. Needs 18V to run — dual 9V batteries or a 3.5mm plug adapter. Stage relic wear, 100% functional.
Handcrafted in Melbourne. PT2399-based delay, but with LFO modulation added to the delay time — switch it off for a classic echo, or dial it in for a lush, chorus-like wobble on your repeats. High/Low depth range switch, dry volume control, true bypass. A nice boutique contrast to the rest of this list.
Silver label, from a short production run that only lasted February 1997 to January 1999 — increasingly hard to find. Fully discrete circuit with no ICs, low 6mA current draw. Sits somewhere between a Fuzz Face and a Tone Bender: smooth, rich fuzz with real sustain, and it plays nicer with buffers and wah pedals than most vintage fuzzes do. In perfect working condition, no box.
Black Label, early Taiwan production, built around the classic TA7136AP chip — the circuit is essentially identical to the legendary MIJ version from the same era. This is the exact DS-1 era Kurt Cobain ran for Nirvana's Bleach and Nevermind. Aggressive, mid-focused distortion with tight low end and cutting treble. Excellent condition, original box included.
Original National Semiconductor LM308N op-amp — the chip that gives the RAT its warm, fuzzy, distinctive tone that modern reissues don't quite replicate. Factory solder joints untouched, all four original tall rubber feet, factory battery door thumbscrew. Circuit verified completely original.
The most iconic guitar effect there is. This one's got the red Fasel inductor, Hot Potz potentiometer and heavy-duty die-cast housing, delivering a focused, aggressive wah with real expressiveness under the foot. Excellent condition, comes with the original box.
A drum machine built into a stompbox — 220+ styles across 24 genres, 10 drum sets, with real (non-quantized) recordings of professional drummers so it doesn't feel robotic. Visual metronome on the LCD, SD card slot for expanding your library. Comes complete with power supply, 4GB SD card, USB cable and the original box. Excellent condition.
