Yamaha Luxury Series L-10 | MIJ, 1980s
Yamaha's Luxury, or "L", Series was hand-crafted at the company's Nippon Gakki plant in Japan, produced from 1975 through to 1986. The line was built to go head to head with American folk and western guitars like Martin, but sold solely in the Japanese domestic market, so these turn up far less often outside Japan than the quality deserves. This L-10 is a genuinely impressive example of that series.
It's an all-solid build: solid Ezo spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, African mahogany neck, ebony fretboard with snowflake inlays, and an ebony bridge. That all-solid construction is a big part of why it sounds the way it does, resonant and full, and only getting better with decades of playing in. It's had a recent fret dress and plays beautifully, with an easy, low action from top to bottom of the neck.
Condition is great overall for a guitar this age. There are a few small nicks and grazes to the lower bout on the top, and a thin mark on the side, visible in the photos. Comes with its original hard case. Every guitar that comes through Guitar Garage gets set up with playability front of mind, and this one's no exception.
