Morris TF-60, 1981 (Japan)
This 1981 Morris TF-60 is a Japanese-built dreadnought, and the wood has completely opened up over the decades. The first thing that catches your eye is that incredible full gloss sunburst finish, accented perfectly by the multi-ply abalone binding around the body and those striking abalone hexagonal inlays down the fretboard. Paired with the original gold tuners, it has that unmistakable, premium Martin D-45 vibe. Turning it over, the rosewood back is a beautifully bookmatched example of the quality coming out of Japan at the time.
It's got a solid spruce top paired with Jacaranda rosewood, giving it this deep, rumbling low-end while the highs stay incredibly crisp and sweet. Even digging in hard with a heavy pick, the note separation is flawless.
It's in excellent condition for its age. There's no serial number, which is common on these when the original inner paper label has peeled away over the years, but the structural build is rock solid: the neck is straight, the frets show no wear, and the action is lovely and easy all the way up the neck. There's a mark on the back of the neck, but otherwise it presents beautifully.
