Morris LF-5, 1980 (Japan)
This 1980 Morris LF-5 is a Japanese-made square-shoulder dreadnought from the golden era. The aesthetic details are what really blow you away: a deep vintage sunburst finish with cream binding, abalone purfling and rosette, and a white mother-of-pearl Tree of Life inlay climbing the fretboard.
Flip it over and the back and sides are a showstopper too: highly figured laminated Jacaranda (Brazilian rosewood), built three-piece with a contrasting maple centre wedge, the seams bordered by an intricate mosaic strip in classic Martin D-35 style. Up on the headstock, the original Morris-branded enclosed chrome tuners still turn smooth and hold tuning rock-solid.
At 46 years old it's in pristine, time-capsule condition, with zero fretwear keeping the frets' profile fully intact. Tonally it has that sweet, matured warmth only decades of settling can give, and it punches well above its weight.
