Tomson BW-35, 1976 (Japan)
This 1976 Tomson BW-35 is a gorgeous Gibson Hummingbird copy, crafted by the legendary Kiso Suzuki Violin Company, with a vibrant, moody sunburst finish that instantly catches the eye. The attention to detail is remarkable, from the vintage cream binding cleanly framing the body to those classic split-parallelogram fret inlays running up the rosewood board. You can't miss that iconic scratchplate design either, complete with the engraved hummingbird and blossoms, giving it that unmistakable, high-end personality.
It's built with a classic fine-grained spruce top paired with rosewood back and sides. Fifty years of natural aging have given this wood combination a rich, woody depth that you simply can't buy new. It has a remarkably bold, well-balanced projection, serving up warm, punchy lows, a sweet midrange focus, and a crisp top-end shimmer that completely sings when you dig in.
Condition-wise, this one is in remarkable shape for its age. It shows some light surface marks here and there from decades of being loved, but it features minimal to no fretwear, meaning it plays incredibly smooth up and down the neck, just as responsive to delicate fingerpicking as it is to heavy strumming. It's got that authentic, played-in vintage character that modern guitars can only dream of.
