Takeharu WT-200 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar | 1980

$750.00Price

Built by the Kiso Suzuki Violin Company, the Takeharu WT-200 is a genuine piece of "lawsuit-era" Japanese guitar history — a period when Japanese factories built acoustics and electrics to rival, and sometimes outdo, their American counterparts. This example is a verified 1980 build (five-digit serial 00163), finished with the brand's distinctive dark red/tortoiseshell faux woodgrain pickguard and original stylized silver foil logo.

The solid spruce top gives it real projection and volume, with the complex overtones you'd expect from a 46-year-old top that's had decades to open up. Back and sides are a high-grade Japanese cross-grained laminate — less prized than solid wood for tone, but genuinely durable and highly resistant to warping and cracking, which goes some way to explaining how well this guitar has held up. The neck is mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

It's just come off a professional luthier's bench for a full inspection, clean and setup: the neck is straight, the frets have plenty of life left, and the action is set up comfortably. Cosmetically it's in excellent shape for a vintage piece — minor surface wear and scuffs consistent with its age, but no severe structural cracks, separations, or deep gouges.
