Solace Southern Deluxe, Natural Burst (2026)

Solace is a boutique outfit out of Marlborough, New Zealand, hand-built by luthier L.D. Pauling, and it's close to the heart here at Guitar Garage. This Southern Deluxe, serial #0121, dates to September 2026, so it's genuinely fresh off the bench. The body is a chambered Mississippi swamp ash, finished in a natural burst satin that lets the grain show through. Chambering keeps it light at 3.15kg, and it's in immaculate, mint condition without a mark on it.

The front is anchored by a hand-made, 3-ply Koru pickguard, its carved scrollwork drawing on the same spiral motif as the Southern Cross stud pattern and NZ paua inlay on the back. It's paired with a Gotoh bridge, strung through-body with Gotoh ferrules, and a contoured heel for easy upper-fret access.

The neck is a one-piece tempered Canadian flame maple, carved into a modern C profile with a 9.5-inch radius and 25.5-inch scale. Stainless steel medium-jumbo frets and a bone nut round it out, so bends feel smooth and it should hold its fretwork for a long time yet.

Electronics are a pair of Mr Glyn 'Integrity' humbuckers, wound in New Zealand and set in soapbar-style surrounds, run through CTS pots and an Orange Drop capacitor with a 3-way blade switch. Combined with the resonance of that chambered ash body, it's a full, articulate sound with no hum to fight.
