A TRUE CLASSIC, A TIMELESS TONE

1962 Gretsch Anniversary 6125, Two-Tone Green

This one came through the doors and we couldn't wait to plug it into a big clean vintage Fender with plenty of headroom. Running it through a Super Reverb, you can really hear how dynamic and responsive this single-pickup hollowbody is, a smooth-talking charmer of a guitar with a rare finish and a genuinely cool single-pickup config, exactly the kind of guitar we love putting front and centre in our Guitar Showcase. Boots on, ciggie on the lip, honky-tonky.

Gretsch launched the Anniversary line in 1958 to mark their 75th year, building a more affordable way into the brand's signature sound. This 1962 example carries the same single-pickup layout as the dual-pickup 6120, and somewhere along the way Gretsch swapped the original Filter'Trons for a Hi-Lo'Tron, a pickup that trades output for articulation and picks up every nuance in how you play. It's noticeably light for a hollowbody at 2.85kg, and instead of the usual Bigsby it wears a rarer palm tremolo, worth knowing if you're after something a little different.

That Hi-Lo'Tron brings a woody, mid-forward tone with real acoustic resonance, and the hollow maple body adds its own natural room sound underneath it. With just one volume, one tone, and the pickup selector, there's nothing standing between you and the guitar, roll the volume back and it cleans up beautifully rather than going thin, all part of what makes it so responsive to how you play. It's just as at home with blues and roots players after a vocal lead tone as it is with indie and alternative guitarists wanting jangle that still sits cleanly in a band mix. Push it with a touch of overdrive or drown it in spacey reverb and it slides just as easily into spaghetti western territory.

Well suited to rockabilly and country players after twang without harshness, blues and roots players wanting a vocal-like lead tone, and indie or alternative players who need jangle that doesn't turn to mud in a mix

Condition & Originality

This one shows honest wear for its age, nothing that affects how it plays or sounds, and every major component is original. The fretboard's still got plenty of life left, the neck is straight, and the action is comfortable and ready to go. We've checked over the electronics, bridge alignment, and intonation ourselves before putting it on the floor.

Happy to send through more condition photos if you'd like a closer look before deciding.
