Gretsch Anniversary 6125 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar | 1962 Two-Tone Green

Gretsch built the Anniversary series in 1958 to mark 75 years of guitar making, and the 6125 was the single-pickup version, a cheaper way into that Gretsch sound without stretching to a 6120. This one's a 1962, from the run after Gretsch switched the Anniversary line over from Filter'Trons to the single-coil Hi-Lo'Tron, and it's in genuinely unusual shape: 2.85kg, which is featherweight for a hollow body, and fitted with the rare palm tremolo rather than the more common Bigsby.
 
The single Hi-Lo'Tron in the neck position isn't going to give you humbucker output, but that's the point it's a woody, articulate, mid-forward tone with real acoustic resonance behind it, the kind of thing that sits beautifully in rockabilly, country, blues or a jangly indie mix without fighting for space. One volume, one tone, a pickup selector that does nothing with only one pickup fitted but was standard to the model.
