Sound and Tone

The G-II humbuckers deliver classic rock punch with clarity and sustain. The carved maple top adds snap and articulation, while the agathis body provides balanced resonance. The set-neck construction and tune-o-matic bridge contribute to the legendary sustain these Yamahas are known for.

Feel and Playability

The slim mahogany set-neck with 24.75" scale feels fast and familiar to Les Paul players. The bound rosewood fingerboard and 12" radius offer smooth playability across 22 frets. At 3.6kg, this is a little lighter than the average Les Paul, reducing fatigue during long sessions.

Condition

Great vintage condition for its age. Honest play wear consistent with a 40-year-old instrument. Light denting on the back of the neck. Small ding on the tip of the body horn. Structurally sound. Plays beautifully. A rock-solid example of vintage Japanese craftsmanship.

Background

The Yamaha SG series was produced from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. The SG-600 was a mid-tier model below the flagship SG-2000 but shared the same construction principles. 1981 was the final production year for this specific sub-model, making these examples particularly collectable. These guitars remain highly regarded for their build quality and tonal performance.
