Vintage Morris R-50 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar | Late 1970s / Early 1980s Made in Japan

Made in Japan. Solid spruce top. Rosewood back and sides. Mahogany neck with vintage V profile. Original hard case. Rich, balanced dreadnought tone.

The Morris R-50 is a vintage Japanese acoustic guitar built during a period when Morris was producing high-quality instruments that rivalled Western brands. Although R-50 model details are rarer online than some other Morris models (like the W-50), documented examples confirm it as a solid-top dreadnought-style acoustic with quality woods and construction.

The Morris R-50 MIJ is part of the vintage Japanese wave of excellent acoustic instruments from the 1970s–1980s many built by respected workshops like Terada Gakki or under strict factory oversight. These guitars are desirable to players and collectors because they offer a lot of character and craftsmanship for the price, especially compared with later mass-market acoustics.

This example has a character and voice that is truly inspiring. It plays extremely well and definitely has many great songs left in it. The vintage V-shaped neck offers a comfortable and distinctive feel.

Sound and Tone

The Morris R-50 delivers rich, balanced acoustic tone with the classic dreadnought voice: big projection, well-defined lows, and clear, singing trebles. The solid spruce top provides responsiveness and dynamic range, while the rosewood back and sides add depth, warmth, and excellent sustain. Players often praise these vintage MIJ acoustics for their rich tonal character and impressive projection.

Feel and Playability

This R-50 features a comfortable vintage V-shaped mahogany neck that feels distinctive and smooth in the hand. The bound rosewood fingerboard offers easy playability across the fretboard. Despite some dents on the back of the neck (see condition notes), it plays extremely well with smooth action and excellent intonation.

Condition

Good condition overall with honest play wear. Has dents on the back of the neck (does not affect playability). Some typical cosmetic signs of age. All original components. Currently set up and playing beautifully with that inspiring vintage acoustic voice.
