Guild G-37BL 1978

Guild G-37BL 1978

An absolutely beautiful example of late-1970s Guild excellence.

The G-37 in blonde is not often seen, especially in such great condition for its age.

First of all, it looks great.

The back, sides, and two-piece neck are beautifully grained maple with a mahogany strip, while the top is solid spruce. Everything is finished in an amazing natural blonde with clear lacquer that lets the grain shine through.

A stunning 1978 Guild G-37BL dreadnought, built in Guild’s legendary Westerly, Rhode Island factory.

This big-bodied, square-shouldered vintage Guild is a true powerhouse, featuring a solid spruce top, arched maple back, and solid maple sides. The arched maple back enhances sustain and projection.

Solid and repair-free, the guitar is extremely clean and shows the classic late-’70s Guild build quality.

This G-37 is a beast of a guitar.

The neck is comfortable, there is no fret wear, and the frets are in excellent condition. The rosewood fingerboard features simple dot inlays, and the jet-black headstock is tastefully inlaid with Guild’s name and logo. The action is extremely playable, and the neck is straight.

There is one small blemish on the back of the neck behind the 2nd fret, possibly a mark from a guitar stand.

There is a blemish on the top below the bridge.

The body is highlighted only by thin natural blonde binding—classic Guild elegance.

All original chrome tuners. The original tortoiseshell scratchplate is in place and in excellent condition.

The only non-original parts are a replacement truss rod cover and an LR Baggs pickup that has been installed.

It’s a rare and lovely find to see a 1970s Guild appear; there are not too many around. Overall, this guitar is really amazing and definitely worth considering if you are interested in a vintage Guild piece.

Purchased from the original owner in 1985 and well cared for throughout its life.
