Yamaha SG-1000 - MIJ - 1981 - Tobacco Burst
This is an incredible guitar: a 1981 Yamaha SG-1000 made in Japan in beautiful condition. The SG series gained significant recognition in the late 1970s, gaining the hands of renowned musicians such as Carlos Santana and being celebrated as the natural progression of the Les Paul style design. These early models have developed a big following and its easy to see why.
Visually, this is stunning. Its dark appearance of the Tobacco Burst finish stands out beautifully against the binding and gold hardware.
It's built with a bound mahogany body with a 2-piece maple cap, slim 60’s mahogany set neck, and an ebony fretboard (12" radius, 628mm scale length, 43mm nut width). Split pearl inlays. Original gold Yamaha tailpiece, bridge, and tuners. Original SGH-1SOB humbuckers sound meaty. Push/push coil split switches on the tone knobs. One of the push-pull pots has been replaced.
A cool modification to this guitar is the active/passive switch, located on the control cavity at the back of the body. Powered by a 9V battery. The scratch plate has been removed at some point in its lifetime; there are two holes on the top from where the screws used to be.
Overall, it’s in great condition. Hardly any fretwear. Bucklerash on the back of the body. Small nick on the back of the neck at the 5th position. 1/2 of the 7th fret inlay is slightly discoloured. Nicks and bumps around the sides of the body. Very small chip off the finish on the bottom of the top. Minor pickwear is present on the top.
The playability on this guitar is excellent; the action is nice and slinky. The neck is straight, and the truss rod works. This SG1000 is a super choice for players and collectors alike.
Comes with gig-bag.
Weight: 4.4kgs.
